  • What is the WISER programme?
  • Women Involvement in Science and Engineering Research (WISER) aims to promote the bilateral exchange of women researchers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) through collaboration between Indian and German women researchers and submitting proposals in a paired mode.

  • What is the WISER application process?
  • Who is eligible to apply for WISER?
  • Women holding a regular/long-term research position in academia/research institute/industry.

  • Are Co-PIs allowed for WISER?
  • No, Co-PIs are not allowed.

  • What are the topics/research areas eligible for WISER?
  • WISER is open to all areas of STEM. Preference will be given to applied/industrial research projects

  • What is the age limit for applying?
  • Applicants must be between 25 to 55 years (or 5 years younger than regular superannuation date of their Organization) on the day of application deadline for a particular year.

  • What is the tenure of the grant?
  • The tenure of the grant is upto 3 years.

  • Can the tenure for this program be extended?
  • No, tenure of the program is up to 3 years only.

  • What is the financial support amount
  • Indian Awardee

    • Travel (including visa fee and insurance) approximately ₹ 1 lakh
    • Project cost upto ₹ 12 lakh/year (including research staff, consumables, contingency and per diem @
      € 2300/month in Germany)

    German Awardee

    • Travel (including visa fee and insurance) approximately € 1500
    • Project cost upto € 14500/year (including research staff, consumables, contingency and per diem @ € 2300/month in India)
  • How to Form a Collaborative Pair?
  • Applicants are responsible for identifying and selecting a collaborator (in India or Germany). The selection of a collaborator and obtaining their endorsement is entirely the applicant's responsibility. IGSTC supports the process by providing access to the IGSTC matchmaking portal where interested applicants can register and network with potential collaborators.

  • Does each collaborator of the WISER pair need to apply separately?
  • No, both partners of the pair apply in the same application.

  • Is it necessary for the paired collaborator to be a woman?
  • The paired collaborators must be women from India and Germany.

  • Is there any format for submitting the endorsement letter?
  • Yes, provided online platform of WISER program, on IGSTC website

  • How to apply?
  • Application must be submitted online via the “Application Portal” separately by each member of the collaborating pair. Submissions by other means will not be accepted.

  • How can the paired partner applicant access the WISER application?
    • The primary applicant enters the partner’s details in the "Pairing Details" section of the application.
    • The paired applicant receives login credentials via email.
    • Using these credentials, the paired applicant can log in and complete their part of the application.
  • How much time does the evaluation take?
  • IGSTC shall complete the evaluation process in approximately 8 weeks.

  • What are the formalities on completion of the project?
  • On completion of the tenure, the awardees from both countries should submit a final report together with a consolidated Statement of Expenditure/Utilisation Certificate to IGSTC in the specific format.

  • What is the deadline for the applications?
  • Application Submission: 1st February to 31st March every year.
